About the business district
Plateau is the smallest commune in the district of Abidjan in terms of area and population. The town receives nearly two million visitors a day.
With its towers and buildings overlooking the Ébrié lagoon, Plateau is nicknamed by some “little Paris” or “little Manhattan”.
Since the creation of the railway district, to accommodate the terminus of the Abidjan-Niger railway line, Plateau has rapidly developed to become the political, administrative, commercial and financial center of Côte d’Ivoire, and holds an important place in West Africa.
Due to its history, Plateau is home to many colonial-style buildings with Art Deco influences; built by the architect Henri Chomette, who successfully introduced African heritage elements into his creations, blending perfectly with other representative monuments such as the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium, Saint Paul’s Cathedral and the Pyramid.
Constantly evolving, the town will soon house the tallest tower in Africa which will culminate at 283 meters with a symmetrical geometry, resembling an African Mask.
Plateau brings together a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and hotels as well as many squares, relaxation and leisure areas.
The Plateau of tomorrow aims to be a model of Smart-City in Africa and in the world.
