June 23, 2022 4:00 PM CET (9:00 AM CST) ONLINE CONFERENCE ON ZOOM
Chicago experts will look at the tangible examples of success and together with the reaction from attendees paint a picture of where downtowns are heading in this post pandemic world

Overview

The COVID-19 pandemic has magnified the many inequities between people and places in the United States, largely heaping health, social, and economic harms. From the “Great Resignation” to the “Zoom Revolution” and to the nationwide housing boom, the legacies of the pandemic are in many ways helping to redefine the meaning of urban life. The ability to work remotely has changed the sensibilities of millions of lives and careers. This significant changing pushes cities and GBDs to re-imagine its role and impact.

What is the response of downtown Chicago to the ongoing evolution?

How downtown can remain attractive?

Chicago experts will look at the tangible examples of success and together with the reaction from attendees paint a picture of where downtowns are heading in this post pandemic world.

The Panel Themes

  • David will share the recently released State Street Reimagined, Visions for an Inclusive Downtown report prepared by his class of graduating seniors from Columbia College Chicago who were inspired by State Street’s vibrant history and recent successful placemaking activities such as Sundays on State and alley activations.
  • Kiana DiStasi will share her expertise in marketing and communication to discuss how to bring these ideas to life by activating often forgotten public space and particularly, the award-winning Sundays on State Street program.  Kiana will share lessons learned for attendees to use in building the future downtown.
