About the business district
Jing’an CBD is a functional business zone within the district, officially branded to attract investment and to position Jing’an District as an international economic hub. It concentrates on the headquarters economy, finance, professional services, creative industries, and innovation, with its core located along West Nanjing Road and Suhewan (Suzhou Creek).
Nestled in the heart of Shanghai, Jing’an District derives its name from the venerable Jing’an Temple and spans a total area of 37 square kilometers. With its sights set firmly on international first – tier standards, Jing’an is vigorously advancing in urban spatial planning, fortifying industrial functions, and refining the business ecosystem. It is wholeheartedly promoting the “One Axis and Three Belts Urban Zoning” strategy, constantly elevating its global economic clout, and forging a comprehensive and novel opening – up paradigm.
In the first three quarters of 2024, Jing’an’s regional GDP hit 204.53 billion RMB, and the general public budget revenue amounted to 30.22 billion RMB, topping the list among Shanghai’s urban districts. Foreign investment contributes over 50% to Jing’an’s economic growth, underscoring the prominence of its export – oriented economy. Moreover, there are 92 buildings in Jing’an boasting an annual tax scale of 100 million RMB, vividly demonstrating a thriving building – based economy.
The Shanghai Jing’an Central Business District (CBD) is made up of the Suhewan Functional Area and the Nanxi Functional Area. The Suhewan Functional Area, covering 4.2 km² and flaunting a 6.3 – kilometer shoreline along the Suzhou Creek, is distinguished by its captivating waterfront allure and environmental charm. The Nanxi Functional Area, seated in the core of Jing’an District, covers 6.7 km². It is home to a rich trove of historical edifices, cultural legacies, and some of the world’s premier commercial structures.
The harmonious fusion of ancient and modern elements, together with its deep – rooted cultural heritage, engenders a one – of – a – kind ambiance. At present, Jing’an CBD is actively driving the development of five pillar industries: modern commerce, financial services, technological services, professional services, and cultural & creative sectors.
Modern Commerce: Jing’an CBD has become a magnet for top – notch brands. It houses the headquarters of global luxury powerhouses like Richemont, Kering, and LVMH, alongside renowned beauty brands such as L’Oréal, Sisley, and Clarins. Tapestry, Longchamp, and SMCP have also set up shop here. The Nanjing Road W. commercial zone is on track to achieve total retail sales of consumer goods of 100 billion yuan (US$14.62 billion) by the close of 2025, set to become the first commercial zone in Shanghai to cross this significant threshold. The Suhewan Commercial Zone is one of the five vanguards of the “First Store Economy” commercial zones in Shanghai. The Suhewan Mixc World, with a 60,000 – square – meter business expanse, has 40% of its brands being “First Store” newcomers. Jing’an Joy City has emerged as one of Shanghai’s leading destinations for pop – up stores.

Technological Services: The “Shanghai Science and Technology Service Industry Development Demonstration Zone” is nestled within Jing’an. Cultural & Creativity: Jing’an CBD is also blossoming into a cultural powerhouse. The launch of the “Art Ripples” campaign in 2023 marked a pivotal turning point in its cultural renaissance. This initiative has transformed Jing’an CBD into a vibrant art corridor, with over 170 cultural hotspots now dotting the waterfront, such as UCCA Edge, Fotografiska Shanghai, SUHE HAUS, and Sotheby’s.
