New Life for Old Buildings
Faced with the aging of certain towers, the choice is no longer to destroy in order to rebuild, but to rehabilitate them.
Projects like these are often faster, less expensive and have less environmental impact. In Coupole Regnault in La Défense, the deliveries of the new Akora, Latitude and Watt buildings help to transform the identity of the two neighborhoods where they are situated.
The Le Balzac building, less than 30 meters high, renamed Akora, was designed with a view to reconciling the “worlds of minerals and plants”. Its two large openings overlooking Parc Diderot provide light and transparency. Just imagine : 405 m² of rooftop covered with trees. Nature is gaining ground! In the fall of 2022, Akora will become the Lefebvre-Dalloz tower and will host 1,300 employees of the Lefebvre Sarrut group (publisher and legal and tax trainer).
Next March, it will be the turn of the 2,000 employees of Sopra Steria (IT company) to settle in the offices of Latitude. Designed by Studios, the building features bold lines and offers a wide range of services. Paris La Défense took advantage to redevelop public spaces: modernization of the crossroads, the forecourt and covered roads located nearby, pedestrian areas, densification of vegetation, new cycle paths, installation of public lighting and street furniture … These infrastructures contribute to the site’s modern identity.
As for the Watt building, the renovation work of the City Défense building should be completed in early 2022. On the ground floor, a new square and a cafeteria will be open to the public. The building will offer a bright and green working environment. A brand new corporate restaurant will be installed in the basement, between the Watt and Ampère buildings. This rehabilitation work on the building complex offers an opportunity to redevelop the outdoor spaces so as to better connect La Défense with the part of Henri-Regnault street.
